Introduction

According to Janesick (2011) “life consists of writing, reading other people’s writing, editing, and rewriting and evaluating the writing” (p.155). For me, the adventure of learning began a long time ago and continues because it kindles my intuition, enhances my professional skills, increases my knowledge of current events and ideas, and gives me the unique liberties for diversion and relaxation. The 15-minute three day journal writing was a very satisfying and intellectually rewarding way to spend my time during the week.

Similarly, a research study involves a lot of reading resulting in information overload that can only be harnessed by becoming more organized and focused on the area/s of study. To overcome the challenges associated with these demanding research chores, it is imperative to be involved in journaling as a means to recall or look back at some article or to help us to remember something critical in shaping the research study (Progoff, 1975). The need to recall thoughts, ideas, or conceptions while they are still fresh in our minds is always apparent, hence researchers must rely on journalizing whatever comes to mind at that particular point in time instead of relying on agile ability to remember everything associated with the study. As hypothesized by Janesick (2011), journalizing is about increasing learning and professional development, incorporating knowledge and personal growth from reading efforts or learning experiences, dialogue with oneself, other individuals, or fictional individuals. In a qualitative study, journalizing will come in handy while collecting data, and it is a handy tool for generating, gaining, and acquiring ideas, thoughts, and concepts (Creswell, 2007). Because journalizing is a personal story line or sequence of events, it unveils an individual’s contemplation, thought, or opinion on a particular subject matter or project such as a qualitative
