What are the three principles of judicial review? To begin with, it was the night before Jefferson became president when he sent out the commissions, but he didn't finish delivering. Because he didn't send them all, he told Madison not to deliver the rest. A man named William Maubury noticed that he didn't receive his commission, so he decided to do something about it. He took it to the court, but the chief justice, John Marshall, denied his claim and responded with the three principles of judicial review. The three principles state that the constitution is the supreme law of the land, when the constitution has a conflict with any law the constitution must be followed, and the judicial branch has power to obtain the constitution.
