Psyche always obeyed Orual, and now, Psyche only obeys her husband. Orual is no longer a parent figure in Psyche’s life. Now, she has to become Psyche’s sister. Orual is scared that Psyche no longer loves her or will be a part of her life. The reader can clearly see that Orual is truly confused. She is unsure of her faith and her relationship with Psyche. When Orual tries to “save” Psyche from herself, Orual is causing more harm to her than good. She cannot accept that fact that Psyche is fine and happy. Orual eventually sees the error of her ways, but it is too late. When she makes Psyche disobey her husband’s wishes, Psyche is sent to live in exile.
Finally, Orual starts to believe in the gods and goddesses, but she is too late. She realizes she should have never gave her sister an ultimatum. Orual is ashamed of what she did, but she quickly realizes she cannot fix what is already been done. Psyche is sent to exile, and Orual will have the same fate and be “Psyche”. Orual lives her days in regret, and tries to forget about her poor sister. In the end, Orual has to live with the fact that she caused Psyche’s pain and
