Cinematic Style of Tim Burton
Tim Burton is a successful director, producer, and screenwriter. Burton went to the California institute of art majoring in animation. He then worked at Disney for a time before he went off on his own. Burton enjoys making his films a little grotesque and full of horror because of childhood influences. Some of these themes are seen throughout his films, some including, Edward Scissorhands(1990), Batman(1989), and The Night Before Christmas(1993). All these show grotesque and horror. Burton’s films may have a dark theme, but this doesn't mean that his personality is the same; in the sense that he is a horrific and gross person. When the viewer gets the first real glimpse of the town where everyone lived compared to the tower where Edward had spent most of his life in isolation. Edwards many years in isolation have limited his understandings of the bright, vibrant,and colorful environment that surrounded him that he never knew about. The moment Edward enters the town for the first time we as the viewers are greeted with camera cuts and many long shots to show off how colorful the town is compared to the dark dreary atmosphere of the castle. When Burton uses these elements, it really gives the viewer a good understanding of the environment that surrounds the characters in his movies. When Tim Burton uses many different colors it can also give the viewer a sense of the mood in the area. Colors and other textures in movies are essential to providing the viewer with a clear idea of the mood in the story. You can see this being used again when Edward is in the castle and you can see how dark it is, that gives the viewer an idea of a depressing, dark, and lonely setting.
