The Titanic was the mother ship of its time, weighing 52,310 tonnes and measuring at over 882 feet long. It was labelled as the ''Ship of Dreams''. The Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage to New York on April 10th, 1912. Four days later on April 14th, 1912 the large vessel hit an iceberg, flooding five of the watertight compartments on board which then forced the ship to dive forward and rip apart. Meaning that two hours and fourty minutes later on the 15th of April, 1912 the wondrous 'Titanic' was laying at the bottom of the ocean floor in two separate pieces. The movie based around this famous vessel was released on November 18th, 1997 and was created by the illusive James Cameron. The main stars of the movie were Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet who were and still are two of the most famous actors of this generation. The movie did very well for its self after its release with an initial worldwide gross of over £1.22 billion, the 3D version which was released for the century anniversary of the ships sinking added an extra £227.70 million on top, making 'Titanic' a very successful movie. On board the each class had different floors that they lived on during the course of the voyage, for example Jack Dawson (a main character in the movie) was told "You hold a third class ticket and your presence is no longer appropriate." when attempting to talk to Rose. For the rich being on board the Titanic was a luxurious holiday that they could tell all of their friends and acquaintances about. Whereas for the poor it was more like an escape, a chance to get away from all of their problems and move to America where they could immerse themselves in the 'Land of Opportunity'.
