My favorite scene from the book is chapter 20. When Atticus was in court trying to defend Tom Robinson the victim in this scene/chapter. When I first read this chapter and watched the movie, my thoughts on it was disturbing whole way threw. Let me tell you why, there was a big groups of people in the courthouse, but they put the blacks at the top and white at the bottom. They would do that because the Jim Crow Laws back then still existed, so that’s why they separate the black from white.
The whole reason why everybody was in the courthouse that evening in the first place was because the incident happen between a white woman named Mylla and a black man named Tom Robinson. That’s why Atticus was the lawyer …show more content…
They are trying to find out weather Tom Johnson beat Mylla the other day. The part of the scene I like is they show everybody reaction on this case in the courthouse. For example, when Jim was watching his father, Atticus, being the lawyer for Tom. Jim is understanding what’s going on with the judge and the victims. Another thing I like is that how Atticus is proving his point that John never beat Mylle, he kept on asking Mylle questions on how she got beat. She said he choked her with both hands and beat her right in her house, that’s what Mylle said do Atticus in the courthouse. Then Atticus ask John, which hand do you write with, he said his right hand, because his left arm was torn inside when he was little boy. And Atticus proved Mylle wrong, plus the only person that beat her was left handed, which her husband was.
After all the good things and facts Atticus said to keep John innocent, he still went to jail because of racism. The things I hate in this chapter is the mostly everybody saying especially Mylle and her husband. Plus the racism in this part of the chapter 20. And so, Atticus tried his best and all the black folks respected him after what he tried to do for John.
So I believe Mylle and her husband should’ve went to jail, because Mylle lied. And her husband was the one who beat his wife
