Conformity and individuality progress task Conformity and individuality are prominent ideas and themes in all people's lives that live in the modern world matter who we are, decisions are made in all of our lives whether we choose to conform or not. This is relevant in the text to Kill a Mocking Bird, which follows South finch and her father Addicus finch and their experience with conformity in the racist town of Maycomb. Whereas the film Beauty and the Beast by Bill Condon follows the story of Belle, an 18th-century French woman and her journey through falling in love with her captor (the Beast) and how she challenges the idea of conformity to society through her headstrong and intelligent nature, which opposed much of what was typical for women during the period. Belle shows a love for reading and knowledge throughout the film. In this shot, Belle looks out of place against the other women in the scene, as she is costumed in a bold blue dress compared to the dull background. This isolates Belle as a unique character and mimics how Belle is perceived by others as different because her values are different from what is conventional in 18th-century French society.‘Look there she goes that girl is strange no question, Never part of any crowd’ The townspeople sing about Belle in a song. Condon uses a wide shot to capture the many townspeople singing, showing how this is a common idea with many people shown to agree with it. This shows that Belle's character shows themes of individuality as she chooses to be herself a person instead of conforming to the ideas she's expected
