This is evident when Calpurnia decided to make crackling bread for Scout in order to cheer her up when the latter came home from school upset, as well as Atticus knowing that Jem would come down from his treehouse if he was ignored long enough. This shows how the adults have empathized with the children enough to understand how they would react when certain circumstances were presented before them and how to deal with those reactions. Under these circumstances, these types of interactions show Scout how a little empathy can have a large impact and allow for her to grow as a person.
