To show the point, someone being depicted by society as someone different than who they truly are is Boo Radley. The community of maycomb describes Boo as a psychopath. A good example of this would be when he stabbed his father with a pair of scissors. “As Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent’s leg, he pulled them out, wiped them on his pants and resumed his activities.” ( ) This quote ties to the claim by showing that people of Maycomb judge people before they know them, and one of these people is Boo. People try and stay away from the Radley’s estate as much as possible because they are scared of him. They are scared because Scout soon realizes that this is not entirely true. He gave the kids gifts in tree knots and put blankets on them when they needed them. “Some tinfoil was sticking in a knot-hole just above my eye level...two pieces of chewing gum minus their outer wrappers.” This act of kindness and generosity proves that he has a kind …show more content…
He is viewed as a more of a carefree father because he lets his children do what they want. In the second part of the book, the kids learn that he can also be more stern. He proves this point when he is with his sister, he yells at the Jem and Scout and makes Scout cry “His curtness stung me... This was not my father, my father didn’t think these thoughts.” (178) This showed how Atticus can be a more aggressive father about family values, and that even his daughter misjudged him because she could not believe what he was saying. Atticus is thought of as a carefree person, but this shows how that is not true when they talk about
