Harper Lee, the author of the book To Kill A Mockingbird, endorses the complexity of life through the perspectives of certain characters and their views of others. This is portrayed when we see the story through Scout’s perspective and her thoughts towards the Cunninghams, based on the stereotype of their history with poverty.

From the perspective of Scout, her stereotypical thoughts of others were shown early on in the book. “I rose graciously on Walter’s behalf: Ah, Miss Caroline. He's a Cunningham.” This advocated that being a ‘Cunningham’ had a social status which was revealed soon after. “The Cunninghams never took anything they can’t pay back, they don’t have much but they get along with it.” Scout views this stereotype of them as they
