Todd Beamer A hero is a person who is caring, brave and determined. Their actions influenced people around them to adopt these noble qualities. Selfless and courageous heroes are people who risk their lives to make ours better, and an example of one hero is Todd Beamer. Todd Beamer’s previous experiences with flying would never prepare him for this flight and the hero he would become. Todd was born in Michigan and had two sisters named Melissa and Michelle. He was very into sports and loved playing baseball, but an automobile crash caused him to hurt his back and he could not play anymore. In college he majored in medicine before deciding on a business and then got his M.B.A. from Chicago's DePaul University. In 1994 Todd married a woman named Lisa and they had three children together. He called a woman named Jefferson and stayed on with her the whole flight. While the plane was going down he said The Lord’s Prayed with her. The men on the plane then decided to go to the cockpit and try and take control of the plane. Finally he told Jefferson “If I don’t make it, please call my family and let them know how much I love them.” Then he set the phone down and went to the men. “Are you ready? Okay. Let’s Roll!” (American National Biography Online: Beamer, Todd Morgan). The plane went down, crashing into an empty field in Shanksville. It is said that the passengers of Flight 93 prevented the plane from hitting the White House or another destination.
