Tokens functions as generalized conditioned reinforcers for the target behaviors. There are three components to a token economy. First, it is essential to identify and define behaviors. Second, identify the token type to be used (check marks, plastic coin, stickers, etc). Third, determine the backup reinofrcers that can be obtained in exchange for the token. He attends public middle school in the 6th grade. He is assigned to an InD class (Intellectually Disabled) classroom. Previously, Eric was in a self contained autism classroom while attending elementary school. After completing a functional assessment with Eric and his parents it was determined that a green token would be used. Eric will be given a coin pouch (with a dog on it) in his homeroom class. The target behavior being observed is Eric will bring his daily point sheet to every class on his daily schedule. When he goes to his first period class he will hand the teacher his point sheet. If he has his daily point sheet he will be given a green token to put in his coin pouch. Therefore, the token serves as positive reinforcement that is delivered immediately because the target behavior occurred. Furthermore, Eric will then take his point sheet and coin pouch to the next class. This will continue throughout his school day. Improving Eric’s target behavior will help his transitioning throughout his daily school schedule. At the end of the day he should have seven coins. If he has seven coins in his pouch he is allowed to have computer time the last 15 minutes of the school day. If he doesn’t have the seven coins he will lose his computer time and work on his homework for that
