Tom is incredibly short-tempered. The biggest source of evidence for this is “Making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand (pg. 37).” This happened when Myrtle was saying Daisy repeatedly in an attempt to spite Tom. This ended with her nose broken. If Tom wasn’t so short-tempered, he would not have had every one go to lunch after learning Daisy and Gatsby were having an affair. …show more content…
This is demonstrated in the following quotes, “Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face (pg. 7),” and “‘You two start on home, Daisy,’ said Tom. ‘In Mr. Gatsby’s car’(pg. 135).” In the first quote, Nick is describing the fact that you can tell Tom is arrogant just by looking at him. Secondly, the next quote shows how confident Tom is that he beat Gatsby that he is having Daisy ride with him home. In the end, if Tom weren’t so arrogant, Daisy would have ridden home with him, and Gatsby, a much calmer driver, would not have hit
