For my project I have chosen the company Top golf, because of its rising popularity and huge corporation. In the year of 2000 the Joliffe brothers were practicing their swings on a driving range. They soon began to brainstorm ways they could liven up their range experience and improve their skills at the same time. Some questions they began to ask themselves were “Why wasn’t there a place where they could work on their game and also have the best time of their lives?” and “Why couldn’t they know exactly where their ball had landed? The idea for top golf was born. Over 100,000 schoolchildren will visit one of our six Top Golf sites this year. Over 40% of all customers are under the age of 30. 75% of Top Golf Customers are male and include both avid casual and non-golfers. 60% of Top Golf’s male customers are ages 18‐40. Top Golf provides a fun, non‐intimidating way to learn how to swing a golf club for beginners of all skill levels. Top Golf provides free full sets of club rentals for all guests. “Food and drink play a large part in Top golf’s success. As customers wait for a bay, for which they pay $25-$45 an hour, they can buy drinks and snacks at a sports bar or play pool or billiards. With six games to choose from, a flat screen television tracks players’ target practice scores. For employees, it is hard to obtain a set schedule and it is difficult to speak with management. This can cause more issues in the future if not addressed soon. As a customer, the only thing that top golf may need to improve on is organization on the busy weekends. If you do not have the top golf card you must wait for a table or couch which may anger the customer if the wait times are long.
Each Top golf venue makes roughly $20m revenue a year — of which half is generated from food and drink. Top golf leases its facilities from EPR Properties, which builds the venues at a cost of about $25m each, with Top golf being responsible for $5m of the cost.
