CHOOSE A BOOK OR BOOKS THAT AFFECTED YOU DEEPLY AND EXPLAIN WHY.

A book that affected me was Fahrenheit 451. The reason it stood out to me was because it highlighted the things we so often take for granted. Reading, an extremely powerful ability we possess, is not something we appreciate that often. But if taken away, what would happen? How would ideas, how would history be passed along? In Fahrenheit 451, citizens are forced to live without books. A paved road for government control of society via censorship, the novel shows me how fortunate I am to have emigrated from Soviet Union controlled Ukraine. This control of knowledge also ties into freedom of expression, something we don’t necessarily think much of every day. Living without it however leads to totalitarianism in society. I came to appreciate that we can openly read and experience the sense of emotions that comes from texts, free from government intervention in our everyday lives.

High school is no longer a stop on the road I have to take to my final destination, wherever that may be. I used to think that I’ll snooze through it all now and then one day, when I finally get where I want to be, then I’ll be happy. I didn’t realize that I was overlooking time with friends, dinner with my family, and all the things in between. What really matters to me at this point is living and enjoying life. I get pleasure from working hard, but I don’t let it control me anymore. When I become what I set out to be, the memories of how I got there will bring me joy and
