A tow truck may not be able to service you immediately, which means you may have anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours to wait for a tow truck. While you are waiting, you can help prepare you—and your vehicle—for towing.
Here are three things you should do:
• DO move your car away from traffic. If you can safely drive your vehicle, drive it to the shoulder of the road to prevent blocking traffic. If you cannot drive your vehicle, push your vehicle to the shoulder of the road.

Turn on your hazards lights, even if it is daytime, to signal to other drivers that you are not going to move into traffic. If you have a roadside safety kit, you may also want to section the area off with cones or reflective material.
• DO stay in the vehicle. While you wait for the tow truck, stay in the vehicle. It will help keep you safe from traffic and it will protect you from the elements. If you prefer to not stay in the vehicle, be sure you are near it during your wait.
