The transformational-transactional leadership style framework can be considered a useful tool for understanding leaders while simultaneously characterizing their behavior. This method of style framework focuses on determining how leaders can manipulate uncertainty as a resource to further their political objectives. Transactional leaders work to reduce uncertainty in exchange for support, they conduct themselves as pragmatic, traditional, detail-oriented leaders and are generally risk averse but responsive to change. In particular conditions of turmoil, a transformational approach will cultivate the uncertainty to generate further support. This turmoil may negatively affect a transactional leader as they do not have the ability to easily change course as they believe in perpetuating the status quo. However, the opposite reaction could occur when conditions are stable and there is no fear to perpetuate to gather support for transformational leaders and instead steady pragmatic leaders are needed. This theory of political framework works to reject the Certainty Axion in which leadership is solely based on providing certainty to its followers.
