1The president of Tri-Star acted legally but not always ethically in her dealings over the newmobile phone model. This paper will examine both the legal and ethical issues surrounding the president of Tri-Star.One of the reasons that Tri-Star has such a large market share is because the company voluntarily tests its products for quality control. Customers know that the price of the phone has the cost of quality control built into it, so by bypassing quality control on the battery issue, the president of Tri-Star was neglectful in her obligation to provide the customer with the best possible product for the price.1The president was right, ethically, to terminate Mr. Cutthroat. Cutthroat’s idea to bypass quality control, an idea that the president approved when she confirmed that it waslegal. The president was right not to allow someone with Mr. Cutthroat’s ethically-dubious character to continue working for the company.The president was wrong, however, when she threatened to fire the company’s legal staff ifthey did not find a way to legally bypass the quality control on the new battery. The lawyers would not have been to blame had there been no legal way to bypass quality control. This turned out not to be a problem, as the lawyers discovered that extensive testing on the batteries was not necessary, but the president was wrong to threaten them with termination.
