In Seth Holmes’ work, Fresh Fruit Broken Bodies, the author describes the difficulties faced by the Triqui population and their migration into the United States. Several factors drive this migration of the Triqui people. To start with, there are vast economic inequalities between native and non-native populations in Mexico. They are offered fewer opportunities and face greater poverty in comparison to other populations in the same areas due to a rise in neoliberal economic policies. This is also due to the political stratification that they face. Specifically, they have historically faced discrimination which, in turn, has given them little power to advocate for themselves.
