The Fairfield jail does not have the right amount of funding to feed its inmates, so the city of Fairfield was forced to let those who committed non-violent and misdemeanor crimes free because as I stated earlier they must feed inmates. On the other hand, those inmates who were arrested for felony crimes were transferred to Jefferson County Jail, not set free. Chief Leon Davis says, “Whether they have food or not they’re going to still arrest lawbreakers”. Therefore, the police officials went to the Fairfield City Hall to let them know they were low on food. The Chief then submitted a request for money to buy food for inmates; the officials prepared a check for him to buy food. Next thing that occurred was Councilwomen Gloria Matthews host a meeting discussed ways on how to deal with the problem. Councilwoman Gloria Matthews made a statement on ways they could save money by buying meals from places like Walmart, and volunteered to pick up the food every week if needed. (Carol Robinson). The State of Maryland keeps inmates in fetid cells where the heat and unsanitary condition spread disease, and delays in care for mental and physical ailments have led to unnecessary suffering, according to a court filing by a motion. This motion was filed in the Federal District Court in Maryland on behalf of the jail’s 3,000 detainees. The civil rights group ask the judge to force the state to improve the jail conditions. The Baltimore City Detention Center was described as “a dank and dangerous place, where detainees are confined in dirty cells infested with vermin. The showers that the inmates take bath in are full if drain flies, black mold and filth. Stephen T. Moyer, secretary of Maryland’s Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, made in a statement that his staff was working to address the jail condition, and the state had spent $58 million to improve the jail conditions in the last decade. Mr. Moyer says “Their committed to providing the best service to their clients and ensure accepted standards are met. The ACLU has been investigating the jail conditions the state have fail to make improvement the jails”.
