The authority of the Tsar Nicholas II was heavily undermined after the revolution of 1905 and more directly in the event of Bloody Sunday (9 January 1905). Widespread strikes and uprisings caused by the outraged public created a threat for the Tsar which he could not ignore. Cartoon published in1905 titled „Death stalks the barricades” [appendix + przypis] presents a figure of a giant skeleton passing through the streets of St. Petersburg causing devastation.
