4. Crowdsourcing is when a project is completed by sourcing input from several different users. This can take many forms. Crowdsourcing can be used for completing documents for informational purpose, collecting research for scientific purposes, funding for innovations or any number of tasks. Input from the user can be in the form of written inputs, funding, or in some instances can be embedded in the sense that information is sent directly with any users input being required.
An example for crowdsourcing for funding purposes is Kickstarter (http://kickstarter.com). This is a website that allows users to view different creative and innovative projects and help fund these to make them a reality. As explained in the video linked The Impact of Kickstarter, Creative Commons & Creators Project Kickstarter is helping fund a large range of projects to a phenomenal level, including helping individuals land book deals and produce award nominated films.
Potential funders are encouraged to donate to projects that they feel are creative and to their liking. The owner of the project always maintains 100% ownership of their idea, but potential funders are encouraged with benefits and rewards dependent on the amount they donate.
