Twilight is a popular film and novel written by Stephenie Meyers. The novel’s centers around two protagonist characters, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Bella Swan is a teenage girl that moves to a town named Folks, to live with her Father. Bella is a reserved and curious character therefore, when she sees Edward Cullen she is transfixed. Edward Cullen is a vampire but, only his family and other supernatural beings know this information unless told. Edwards Cullen and Bella swan cross paths, making the novel of Twilight fall into many Genres. The genres Twilight is associated with is Romance, Gothic, Thriller, and Fantasy. Twilight categorizes in the genre of Romance because there is a love story and a hero.
Bella and Edward’s relationship comes off as strange in the beginning. Edward gives off the vibe that he dislikes Bella, making her feel bad but also making her curiosity spark. As the novel moves along the two characters show strange signs of loving each other. Edward Cullen quotes, “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.” (Meyers, 274) In this quote Edward is referring to himself as the Lion and Bella as the Lamb. The damsel in distress character in Twilight is Bella Swan. She’s deemed hopeless against the fights with other supernatural beings. For example, while playing baseball with Edwards’s family, three unfriendly vampires arrive, and Bella has to rely on Edwards’s family to save her. Throughout the novel Edward deals with emotions of anger, Sadness, and love. Edward is angered and saddened that Bella wants anything to do with him.
