WHICH ONE ARE YOU? is the most frequent question I get asked. Growing up I have always been compared to my twin sister, we have been viewed as one. I have been always mistaken by my sister. I could say I have two names: My name giving to me at birth, Jasmine, and the name I have been responding to all my life, Melissa. Sometimes I wonder how my parents managed to keep track of which twin was which.
Melissa and I have always shared everything. Growing up, we were forced to share; toys, birthdays, rooms, friends, clothes, and an identity. When my sister was in trouble I was automatically grounded too. For that reason, we are seen as “double trouble”. I am not usually seen as one individual, but rather the “other half” of my twin. Not only is she my other half, but my best friends too. We have been through good and bad together. Growing up we did not get along, we continuously would fight and argue, but after the loss of my mother, I believe we became much closer.
