Diabetes Mellitus is a disorder in which glucose (blood sugar) levels are high due to the body’s inability to not produce enough insulin. Diabetes damages blood vessels, heart, nerves, eyes, kidneys, and increases the risk of stroke, kidney failure, and heart attack. People that are diagnosed with diabetes have an increase in urination and thirst, and lose weight when they are not trying to. In type 1 diabetes, which is known as insulin dependency, the symptoms will usually begin suddenly while the insulin-manufacturing cells from the pancreas are permanently disintegrated. Which then lead to, insulin dependency, then 90% of beta cells are destoyed which convert to hyperglycemia and enhances lipolysis and protein breakdown.

Type 2 diabetes is preventable by following these steps: exercising more, building healthy eating habits with the right food groups, keep weight under control, and no smoking or alcohol. People are at a low risk when they stay active such as 30 minutes or more of exercise, eat healthy, don’t smoke, and have less than 3 alcoholic beverages per week. Being obese makes the person 30 to 40 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone who has a healthy weight. Staying immobile will increase the risk of diabetes because the muscles aren’t working hard enough to use insulin and absorb glucose. Being active and eating right puts less stress on insulin-producing cells. The diet is the most important part of the role in diabetes, instead of eating or drinking things with sugar, choose water, tea or coffee. Beverages that contain sugar have a high glycemic load and it is important to avoid it. Next, choose whole grains instead of over processed carbohydrates, such as brown rice, sweet potato, steel cut oatmeal, or quinoa. Avoid bad fats and foods that contain good fats such as avocados, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, and fish. Quitting smoking would decrease the risk by
