For many years the village inhabitants enjoyed a peaceful harmony with all the other forest residents, especially the nomadic woodland nymphs that protected the whole forest. The occupants of Arietis consisted mainly of satyrs, centaurs, and minotaurs. It was during this golden age that Hamal Aries was born, a satyr with flaxen locks and a driven disposition.
Hamals sixteenth summer brought with it a darkness that began to seep into Northernwood, infecting all living inhabitants of the forest with a plague of wrath. Evil Druids used dark magic to poison the forest in order to claim the inate power of Northernwood and the magical residents. When news of the the Druids reached the village the majority of the peaceful inhabitants wanted to abandon Northernwood in hopes of finding a safe haven away from the impending curse. Appalled by his brethrens willingness to leave the only home they had ever had, Hamal refused to leave and instead chose to stand and fight by the side of the woodland nymphs.
