Under what conditions to cells lose or gain water?
Questions:
1. Did water move into or out of the cell while it was surrounded by a hypotonic solution? Why?
Water moved into the cell by osmosis because the concentration of the molecules was greater outside the cell.
2. In which direction did water move through the cell membrane when the cell was surrouded by a hypertonic solution? Why?
Water moved out of or away from however you want to say it because the solution because the concentration outside the cell has fewer molecules than the inside of the cell. The cells does not allow the concentration to pass through.
3. Compare what happens to the animal, plant, and paramecium cells in a hyportonic, hypertonic, and isotonic solution? Structurally, what contributes to the noted differences?
The only structural change I noticed is that the plant cell was the only cell to react differently in the hypertonic solution, it appears that the cell wall did not shrink like the others did.
4. Could an Elodea and paramecium transplanted from a freshwater lake be expected to survive if the ocean? Explain.
In my opinion no, because once the cell dries up completely then it is dead.
5. If you grilled a steak would it be better to put slat on it before or after you grilled it? Explain why it terms of osmosis. It is better to do it before because through osmosis the will move in and out until a state of equilibrium is reached.
6. Why does salad
