Furthermore, there also exists underrepresentation of Asians in the television news. News anchors, executives and other employees are rarely Asians, and more specifically Asian males are lacking (Stuart 66). Apart from the lack of Asians Americans in the television news, the content of the news also discriminates the Asian Americans. The news is usually motivated by the desire of the television network to fulfil the people's craving for enjoyment and entertainment. In doing so, it hinders social change by boosting misunderstandings that oversee social matters, which are understanding and accepting different cultures. Television also creates phony programming that gratifies the public interest with the aim of getting high ratings and making profit. Subsequently, the watching public obtains twisted concepts of minorities (Lee). Shows such as "Survivor" and "The Real World" have featured Asians in the shows (Lee). Despite being featured in these shows, they are not portrayed accurately nor with just representation. This shows that the act of featuring Asians on shows does not necessarily mean that there is fair and just representation. To promote fairness in the television network, Tung endorses that there should be policies in place that assign benefits and amenities based on geographical location and not race (Tung 87). The just representation of Asians in media can help enhance understandings about minorities in the United States and help eradicate the stereotyping mentality. Despite this, there is also need for education and a better understanding of other peoples' ethnic practices in order to achieve a significant change.
