The purpose of this experiment is to understand what lichens are and understand how they are bio-indicators. Lichens are composite, symbiotic organisms made up from members of as many as three kingdoms. Bio-indicators are organisms that respond in an intense method to environment changes. Since are useful bio-indicators for air pollution, it is important for us to identify where they are to find the source of the pollution. The best place to observe lichens would be at a cemetery, but since I have a fear of being in that environment I preferred to find them around my neighborhood. My hopes were to find lichens in interesting places that are easily found. I noticed before that I come across a lot of moss so I hope I can discover lichens in my environment. Some places that I hope to find them are on tree barks or wood logs. I first went to my backyard and found substance that seemed like lichens but also seemed like moss on my trees. I was not sure about that so I began to walk around. To my surprise, one of my neighbors has an old wood fence and when I passed by I noticed two perfect visible pieces of lichen. When I went back to my house I noticed a piece of bark on the floor that has lichens on it. I was surprised and began to look around to see which tree it fell from. I noticed it came from the tree right in front of my house and a branch all the way up high is full of lichens. So area 1 was found on a piece of wood and area 2 was found on a tree
