1.1 Analyze the principles, scope, and purpose of supervision in adult care. Supervisions are a good record of a team members development with the company, they are a professionally documented discussion with a team member on a 1:1 basis. In this, there are principles of supervision that are discussed. Professional development: this is looking at the team members development in their career, how and when they would like to get there. If a staff member would like to move up into a manager role, a leadership course may be looked into. If there is one available, documenting and setting actions for this are important so that this is done in a timely manner and follow up discussions are done. Managing performance and development, looking at staff members performance and ensuring this is to a good standard. Supervision/1:1’s are a good opportunity to discuss issues with the individual and their work. As a leader, it is important to support and develop your teams in a positive way, ensuring that their needs are met. Ensuring their workload is manageable for them and ensuring they are supported in this. Identifying training areas to support them in their job role, and identifying areas they have strengths and weaknesses’. Managing the relationship between yourself and the staff and also between the staff team, supporting with any negative attitudes and problem solving. In my supervision I ensure that all aspects of the job are covered and each section is discussed, in one section there is a question which asks about the team morale, this is an opportunity for the staff to discuss any issues they may have and for me to support them through this.
