Case Scenarios Case 1: You witness a coworker taking money from the petty cash box in your department. She says she needs to borrow the money to get her car fixed, and she’ll pay it back when she gets her next paycheck. She reminds you that she did you a big favor when you first started your job and asks that you not report her to the supervisor. Answer: In this situation, I understand her financial difficulty, however that does not justify stealing. Case 2: When you open your paycheck, you realize that you got paid for a day that you didn’t work. Answer: I will bring this to the attention of the Human Resources (HR) representative as soon as possible because it may have been an error on their part. Taking chances by failing to report such errors is theft or fraud and could result in serious consequences. Ethical behavior involves being accountable and transparent in all aspects of work, including pay and compensation. I may or may not be appreciated for reporting such, but it will demonstrate my honesty which I can live with. Case 3: A new supervisor schedules you to perform a procedure using new technology that was just installed but you don’t feel competent to do so. Answer: If I do not feel that I have the competency for the new procedure, I will communicate that to my supervisor because it is essential for my work to speak quality.
