In this assignment I will be explaining the roles and responsibilities of two overarching organisations. This report will be given out to my colleagues to help them understand how legislation, policies or codes have an effect on the health practice. I will also include and discuss the challenges and strengths of these organisations for discussion at the next meeting. The first overarching health care organisation I have chosen is the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The NMC is a UK regulator for nurses and midwives, this aims to protect the well-being and health of the public. The NMC registers nurses and midwives every 3 years and makes sure that they are all up to the standards to be able to carry on with their profession. There are many legislations, a few of these include; equality and diversity act 2010, mental health capacity act and the disability discrimination act. The two I will be including is the mental capacity act and equality and diversity act 2010.
To begin with, the equality and diversity act came into force in October 2010, this act has combined over 116 separate pieces of legislation into one Act. They have been combined in order to provide a legal framework to protect the rights and equality for all individuals. This was done as many people were not treated the way they should be and like any other individual. This act influences society and enables us to be aware that every individual has their rights and should not be treated differently to anyone
