I chose to invite my husband, Alan, to complete the Reflective Listening assignment. After thirty years of marriage, communication patterns become very set; changing them could be quite a challenge. I found the assignment brought to light several ways that I could improve our conversations. We rarely sit down as a couple and focus on our relationship and conversing with each other. Most of our daily conversations take place when we are doing household chores, fixing a meal or talking on the phone. In contrast, it is not unusual for us to have an in-depth conversation with quality communication when it is regarding one of our children. I need to show that kind of focus and priority to our other interactions
