Introduction Throughout our studies in this course, many of us, including our peers, have learned an astronomical amount of knowledge from each individual chapter as well as through one another. One of the areas within psychology that I often find interesting is conformity. There are many ways that informational and normative social influences impact different types of conformity. Conformity and Society As it relates to my own personal views regarding conformity and society, I believe that at some point in our lives, one way or another, we all have experienced conformity, either by seeing it in our everyday lives or by being a participant in it ourselves. In the study by Mahmoodi et al. (2022), they inform us that such a “change of mind in response to social influence could be driven by informational conformity to increase accuracy, or by normative conformity to comply with social norms such as reciprocity” (para. 1).
