Many people greatly appreciate the United States Postal Service as it will deliver mail anywhere in the United States, rain, snow or shine for a cheap price. New Republic journalist Simon Von Zuelyn-Wood points to a recent study on public safety that showed that towns and cities without post offices had a much larger crime rate than cities that did. Mailman are always on the lookout for suspicious activity in neighborhoods and at businesses. The study showed out of all of the 911 calls received, a large majority of them where mailmen on duty. The traffic of customers at Post Offices provides for a safe working environment for mailmen and a safe place for citizens as well. A large case involved in the study was a report of 1700 missing people across the United States. 179 of those peoples cases were solved by mailman alone.
