But, tanother unreliable narrarator is the woman from The Yellow Wallpaper because her sanity tests her reliablity. The Woman from The Yellow Wallpaper is unreliable because her husband is a physician and diagnosed her with hysteria which is an illness that converses psychological stress into symptoms such as selective amniesia, shallow volatile emotions, and over dranatic or attention seeking behavior. Although both narrarators are unreliable, The narrator from The Yellow Wallpaper is more reliable because she seems to be writing in a diary and people put their everyday perspective in diarys. But, who knows if her writings are true to text. “ You see, he doesnt belive i am sick! And what can one do? If a physician of high standings, and ones own husband! Assures friends and relatives that there is nothing the matter with one but temporary nervous-depression - A slight hysterical tendency whats one to do.” (Gilman 1) This narrarators husband is a high standing physician and he diagnosed her with hysteria but she is so set that she has a nervous depression. It is safe to say that she is unreliable because she had been diagnosed with hysteria and might of said somthing for attention. “ There is one marked peculiaraiarity about this paper, a thing nobody seems to notice but myself, and that is that it changes as light changes. We dont know if what she is saying is 100% true but having hysteria the narrarator may over exagerate her statements. The womans depression worsened as the story goes on as her husband puts her on the “Rest Cure” which actually deepened her depression. Although the narrarator is seen as unreliable due to her hysteria, but her husband may be wrong as she has a deepened case of depression. And she may be reliable as she writes in a diary of her everyday life. The most unreliable narrarator is from a Tell Tale Heart because he is delusional, schizophrenic, and paranoid.
