Unwind is not worth reading because the theme is repulsive, done in a way that makes it irrelevant. Through this story, Neal Shusterman explains that we as a species have a right to our lives and a choice on what we do with it. Unwind is not worth reading because Shusterman’s warning about choice is relevant in today’s society, but done in a way that makes it irrelevant. The Bill of Life states “human life may not be touched from the moment of conception until a child reaches the age of thirteen”. So while I do think the theme is relevant to today’s society, the way Neal Shusterman decided to get that theme across is not relevant. Another reason why Unwind is not worth reading is because it is honestly repulsive. I’m a big gore fan and I love scary movies more than the next person, but there were some scenes in this book that made me want to vomit. Like the scene when Roland is unwound, “I’m alone”.
