“TheJungle” by Upton Sinclair written in 1906, shed light on the harsh reality of the production of meat products. As an undercover worker in a meat packing plant, Sinclair ascertained viable information that would shock the city and ultimately change the nation’s purchasing habits. His graphic illustration of the brutality used on animals and the unsanitary packaging and selling of meat led to Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act of 1906
