I would like to start off by thanking every one of you for attending today. Thank you seniors for coming to celebrate not only your accomplishments, but the achievements of your fellow classmates as well.
I would also like to thank the parents and friends of those present today. Thank you for driving us to and from Urbana High School in our youthful freshmen and sophomore years, and for dragging us out of bed in the morning after we hit the snooze button ten times too many.
And of course, I would like to thank the faculty and administration of Urbana High School. Among you are the future doctors that will cure pediatric cancer, the future business leaders that will overtake the Apple company, the future farmers that will lead us to a healthier tomorrow, and the other important individuals that will help construct a better America.
But before we can arrive at that point, we must understand that there will be obstacles that will hinder you from getting where you want to be. Many of you probably experienced some of these troubles just getting through senior year, like receiving your first ticket for parking in the wrong spot, having to sit through after school detention for being thirty seconds too late through the front door, or understanding how real senioritis is midway through the first semester.
However, do not let these struggles dictate your lives. After walking across this stage, do not let the grades you received, the SAT, ACT, AP, or IB scores you managed to get or the number of cords weighing down your necks define your success; because it’s what you learned and how you apply that knowledge to benefit those around you that will determine the legacy you will
