Importance of the United States Constitution The United States Constitution was created over 200 years ago and is by far one of the most important documents in our country. The bad apart of this is most citizens and even students don’t know the reasons why it is so important to our country and they may not even know what its function is. The constitution has many functions and seems long but is actually shorter compared to other countries. It has different sections, each section dealing with different types of issues such as, civil rights, defines our government, etc. If you’re a professional in a criminal justice system I think you should know the United States constitution extremely well. I feel this way because if your everyday job deals with law and rights of people you should know the document that first established the rights of our people in this country. If you aren’t familiar with the constitution and you’re a police officer you could make a wrong decision while making an arrest because you don’t know the rights of the accused. And that could put your job in jeopardy, or a civil suit. For example Police Officer would need to know the 4th amendment because it deals with searches and seizures, and got rid of arbitrary police power. I think it’s also important for everyday citizens to know what the constitution does and what it deals with. One reason for this is because it protects basic rights of citizens like, the 1st amendment that protects freedom of speech, and the second amendment that protects the right to bear arms.
