Science fiction stories based around dystopian futures give us a warning about the future. In Unwind the theme that is developed throughout the novel is, we should value human life. One example of this at the start of the book is, when Connor’s parents decide to unwind him. This is clear when in the text it states, “ Connor wonders how he can call the place he live home when he’s about to be evicted… from the hearts of those who are supposed to love him.” This means that they are just throwing his life away, and Connor can’t accept it, knowing his parents do not care about his life. No one should ever have the right to end a human life just like that. Another example at the middle of the novel is when Connor and Risa arrive at the graveyard.
