Vera Zasulich was the first woman to be charged with terrorism activities in the 19th century by a Russian court of law with Boko Haram being the first militant to enroll women. Between 1980 and 2008, study shows that 15% of terrorism acts were done by women .Other groups like Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has a clear agenda to enroll women. This research is done to find out the role of women in terrorist organizations and how their motivations of committing acts of terror may differ from men. Between 1966 and 1976, 350 terrorists were analyzed and it was concluded that, the number of women in groups like Red brigade, red army factions and PFLP was increasing. This brings up a question of what might be motivating them the said militants.

Some of their roles are; they protect the group’s secret, provide food and wives for their war men, supply weapons for example, bombs and grenade. They also defend the area of attack since women are believed to be trustworthy. Some of them are recruited willingly and therefore there is a possibility of them having acquired higher education. This implies, among them are doctors (to offer medical assistance) and others ex-security officers, implying that they can be involved directly in the wars.
