From working on a lion’s sore tooth to putting a splint on a kitten’s leg, a vet’s day is never dull. Starting at a young age I felt a strong connection with animals and have been driven to help them in any way possible. Protecting the well-being of animals and informing their owners of proper health, feeding, and grooming practices are just some ways Vets help our society.
Acceptance into Veterinary school is extremely competitive with only a select few students accepted each year. Many times a student is rejected multiple times before gaining admittance. To be considered for a vet program you must first complete four years of mathematics, four years of laboratory sciences, and hands-on work with a licensed Vet within your high school years. After these high school courses and volunteer work, you then have to continue your education into college. Vets spend every day helping animals and their owners. From giving a puppy its first shots to stitching up a wounded bear, vets are in constant demand. This makes it extremely easy to start your own office and make money back quickly. Vets are not only there to save animals from life threatening wounds or sickness, but they also set up dietary plans for animals and educate their owners in the correct treatment of animals (unkown, how-to-become-a-vet-tech). Some Vets will travel across the state to help an animal in peril. Being a vet gives you a better understanding of the many species of animals by teaching you their needs, body language, and eating habits.
