The 20th century, with all of its’ drastic changes in many fields, ignited the flame that many countries had hidden away giving rise to a century of warfare. With the most devastating wars of the century being WWI and WWII. In fact, after WWII many countries began to seek out their independence. Both WWI and WWII had weakened European dominance, and many countries that once were colonized or controlled by the Europeans sphere of influence, now began to use this to their advantage to break free from European countries. On the other hand, the Viet Minh saw the rise of this new communist nation as a potential ally to assist them in the war against the French. The French, who were aware of this new threat, began to closely monitor any activity that went on between the Vietnamese and Chinese border. Nevertheless, Ho Chi Minh would not give up his efforts to gain the assistance of the Chinese. Then during the spring of 1950, Ho Chi Minh was finally able to gain the support of Mao Zedong. This meant that the Chinese would now supply the Viet Minh with military weapons and the Chinese also offered to train the Viet Minh army in the southwest province of Guangxi, which is near the Vietnamese border.
