Virtual Reality: Future and Concerns
Came out in 1999 the movie, Matrix, portrays a fantasy world that people lives in a virtual simulated world without acknowledging it. Nearly twenty years from then, such fantasy is almost about to come true with the help of Virtual Reality (VR). Virtual Reality is the technology that allows people to experience virtual world by wearing goggle-like headset. It simulates the environment in the monitor and allows the user to interact. Besides recent development of Oculus Rift, the device of Virtual Reality, using on games and movies, the technique is beneficial to the medical field as well. However, there are a few concerns in this new trend technology, preventing us from actually reaching the virtual environment.
Virtual Reality is capable of creating distraction and relieving the pain patients are going through. Providing strong simulation of virtual environment and giving realistic sense of presence in virtual world, VR can either trick our brain into feeling the fake world or divert our attention to other things.
