The first woman and prior to the Holocaust was Lucia Greenberg an obsessive and determined companion. Lucia always insisted on visiting his apartment and consistently pushed for a greater commitment. Lucia said: “Let’s get engaged, Vladek.” He responds: “It’s late. I’ll take you home.” (15) It is evident that Vladek’s involvement was not emotional and did not include love.
