WAGR Syndrome More than ten million men and women have a genetic disease/ disorder. Fifty percent and above do not talk to a licensed professional about its characteristics. The textbook definition states that one or more genome problem causes a genetic disease. This in all means that they need to be taken seriously by understanding the risk and way of life will be for the patient. Specifically, WAGR syndrome is important to seek help for future life. Other common names for this disease are Wilms' Tumor-Aniridia-Genitourinary Anomalies-Mental Retardation Syndrome or 11p deletion syndrome. The letters represent the first /major symptoms. This syndrome involves problems with chromosome 11. This is due to a deletion in the replication process. There are two genes that are always deleted with the complications with the chromosome. These genes are PAX6 and WT1. This mostly happens in the sperm or egg in fertilization. There have also been cases where the child has a mixture of normal and specialized cells. As long as there is at least one cell affected, the embryo will be affected on different levels of the syndrome. There is an approved diagnosis for WAGR. The first sign is shown at birth with the irises are not fully developed at birth. The next step is to do a genetic test on the child. The genetic test is called a chromosome analysis. The test proves if chromosome 11 is still present, if the chromosome is missing, the child is diagnosed officially with this syndrome. The most common result is the Wilms' tumor, this cancer affects the kidney. Almost every child will have anridia from this syndrome. Anridia is a deformity of the iris, it includes the eye not being fully developed before birth and the eye having discoloration. Other physical problems are in the genre of genitals and urinary tract. The process for urinating can be majorly different for males. Males may have their opening not in the usual spot on the tip of his penis. Females may experience puberty late in life due to immature ovaries. There could also be problems with the tubes of the uterus. These abnormalities can play a part in an uncertainty of gender at birth and increase chance of a genital cancer. This cancer is called gonadoblastoma and it hurts the cells that develop the genitals of both males and females. A less frequent physical effect is breathing problems.
