Beginner Wakeboarder Tips
When you’re just starting out, you may think slower means safer. While that is true, you still have to be going fast enough to get up on the board. That being said, you’ll want the boat going about 12-14 mph. The idea is for you is to be just in front of where the wake turns from a clean ramp to a mushy mess. You want to be hitting the wake at a spot that’s clean, solid, and doesn’t have a lip (that’s where the wake is cresting over on itself). Spin Terminology:
Backside: A spin where you rotate with the back of your body towards the boat first. Many times mistakenly referred to as blindside spins.
Baller: This is a term used for when you do the handle pass of your spin by passing the handle between your legs.
Flatline Spin: A spin where you go over the rope instead of passing the handle.
Frontside: A spin where you rotate with the front of your body towards the boat first.
Off-Axis: When you do a spin but go off the vertical axis so the board usually gets up to shoulder level or above.
Osmosis: When you perform a spin by tossing the handle from one hand to the same hand again, bypassing the other hand.
Rewind: A spin where you do a shifty one way, then back the other, then spin back in the direction of your initial shifty.
Shifty: Board is shifted 90 degrees in one direction and then shifted back in the opposite direction.
To Blind: You land with the rope wrapped around your back instead of passing the handle.
Wrapped: When you have the rope wrapped around your back when riding and you are going to perform a wrapped trick. It allows you to spin without doing a handle pass. It also allows you to perform unique grabs that usually cannot be done when passing the
