The poem, When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d, by Walt Whitman was about President Lincoln. The poem’s settings is during the parade or funeral that was thrown in honor of President Lincoln. Whitman showed his love for President Lincoln throughout the poem and I think that all the people during that time period respected and honored President Abraham Lincoln. Whitman used repetition in this poem expressing how much he loved Abraham Lincoln, Whitman stated, “him I love.” I believe that there was also symbolism with the lilacs that Whitman would break of the bush to place it on top of Lincoln’s coffin.
