Walter, Beneatha, and mama have different ways that would make them happy or have goals of their own, they have their own American Dream. The “American Dream” these characters have is something big that they want in their life but can’t have at the moment. For Walter, he wants to own his very first liquor store because he thinks that will make him successful. Beneatha wants to become a doctor because the average person usually becomes a nurse, but she wants to break the cycle of being average and wants to become different from the rest. Mama wants a home so that there's a comfortable standard of living and not how they are currently living.
